Even thinking about these makes my mouth water.
Perfect for the campsite, or a lazy Saturday morning at home, these spongy fresh French toast will leave you satisfied all weekend long!

Now, let's do it!

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 slices sourdough “sammie” loaf
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Berries, for serving
  • Whipped cream, for serving
  • Maple syrup

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Add the eggs, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, nutmeg and salt to a shallow dish. Whisk well.
  2. Place slices of bread into the egg mixture to soak for several minutes. Flip to make sure slices are well covered. If all the slices won't fit, work in batches.
  3. As the slices are soaking, heat a cast iron skillet over mediium heat. Add one to two tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Place two slices of bread in the skillet and cook for one and a half to two minutes on each side, just until slightly golden with the classic French toast appearance.
  4. Repeat with remaining slices until all are cooked.
  5. Top with berries and whipped cream, and serve with maple syrup!

A few thoughts and some reviews.

A regular Saturday morning at home is treat enough. To enjoy these over a camping experience is unbelievable.

Moist, flavorful, fun... enough calories and carbs (NOT bad words!) to get you through the morning to lunch.

Some days call for extra sparkle, and today, it comes in the form of French toast drenched in maple syrup and topped with colorful berries. A bite of bliss in every forkful πŸŒˆπŸ“.
