Brunch life

Brunch - that fabulous combination of breakfast and lunch - is more a part of our culture than ever before.

Let's do brunch!

We hear that expression often tied to the tradition of the Saturday or Sunday morning or afternoon out with friends, plates scattered among the table, glasses filled with champagne and orange juice, and conversation and laughter flowing freely.

The exact origin might be hard to pinpoint - whether it was in England, whether it's tied to religious or secular rituals, or if it was the result of party-goers ending a late night and starting the next day with a late breakfast-lunch.

But one thing is clear: It is catchy, clever and a lot of fun. Though I am not here to debate where brunch came from or why, I am here to talk about the food and the style that goes along with it.

Savory? Sweet? Why not both!

Brunch should be a celebration of flavors and creativity. From classic avocado toast on freshly baked sourdough or syrup-soaked french toast with homemade whipped cream and summer berries to innovatve dishes like Korean-inspired breakfast tacos, we're always experimenting with new recipes.

I go back and forth constantly whether brunch should be savory or sweet. These days I'm leaning more sweet with a very minimal side of savory, such as a sausage link or potatoes.

My personal philosophy? Throw an egg on top and call it brunch!

  • Dinner cheese enchiladas turned brunch cheese enchiladas avec un oeuf! BRUNCH!
  • An otherwise ordinary beef burrito avec un oeuf! BRUNCH!
  • Steak and eggs - it's built right in. All of these are brunch!

Donuts? Of course. French toast? Definitely? Crepes. Oui! Pancakes... ok, why not?

Whether you're hosting a laid-back gathering at home or planning a stylish brunch party with friends, we've got you covered with customizable and curated recipes that are sure to impress.

Style is an important part of brunch

Style is just as much about brunch as the brunch itself. Cute tops, well-fitting shorts, a summer dress, ankle bracelet, perfectly coiffed hair, some lotion and a subtle cologne are essential to the brunch experience.

I think looking the best is about feeling the best, too.

Here's the best-kept secret about feeling relaly good about yourself. It doesn't take being in the gym seven days a week. It doesn't take running 30 miles per week. It's not about lifting or benching the most weights.

It's really all about the modest and moderate daily things you can do for yourself.

I rarely have time to do much else besides make dinner in the evenings, clean up and finish the night by watching some TV. But I have found that I can squeezy in a quick-ish two mile run or go for an hourlong bike ride and be back at home in time to get dinner on the table.

That means choosing meals I can prep quickly. Which, if I'm being honest, isn't always easy for me. I'm the guy who likes who make homemade gnocci or do a beef bourgninon which takes hours in the oven. But, I truly can just as easily (literally) make an instant pot ragu, chili, or one sheet pan chicken dinner or stirfy. Those take next to no time to make. It's about the mindset to start doing that more often.

Of course, and I can't stress this too much, the best kind of style you could ever sport is the pleasure of bruncing with your absolute besites. Pictured here are ours: Kyle, my forever bestie, Cici, our No. One. Wife, and Mikie. Love them to death - and I have to say, we bring out the best, in all the amazing ways possible. Muah!

My favorite brunch recipe

I've talked about French toast so much, I decided it must be my favorite recipe. My most recent iteration turned out to be camping French toast, and let me tell you - It. Was. Phenomenal.

So, without further ado, I give you, Camp Site Friendly Sourdough French Toast + Berries.

You won't regret it.

The right pair of summer shoes can make or break the day. So make sure they're up to the occasion, whether on land or on the water (or somewhere in between).

I've always been of the mindset that a lot of times, a decision isn't even needed. You know the right direction to go, even if it takes some time to get there. Things will work themselves out how they're supposed to go.
